Kevin Rose Responds to Revolt
02/05/07 09:42
Kevin Rose, co-founder of Digg.com, has responded
with his own thoughts on the user revolt that
occurred last night on DIgg.
An interesting event for sure, where the people really did make a stand and it made a difference. It's good to see a positive effect on even large websites against corporate advertisers. Good Job Kevin!"But now, after seeing hundreds of stories and reading thousands of comments, you’ve made it clear. You’d rather see Digg go down fighting than bow down to a bigger company. We hear you, and effective immediately we won’t delete stories or comments containing the code and will deal with whatever the consequences might be.If we lose, then what the hell, at least we died trying."

Digg.com Get DiggBombed
01/05/07 22:55
A recent flood of stories posted to Digg today are
seemingly bogus posts but with massive amounts of
diggs. Recently, posts about HD-DVD being hacked had
been posted around and now recently a full hex string
is being passed around which apparently is the key to
cracking HD-DVDs DRM. A user was even banned from Digg for posting the
numbers on Digg. In any event, the users of Digg
are in an outrage over the situation where they
feel wronged by Diggs actions. It's also been
noted that HD-DVD is a sponsor of DiggNation which is where much of
this controversy may stem from. Below is a

Jobs hates DRM/iTunes + Beatles/WWDC
07/02/07 09:54
Yesterday Steve Jobs wrote an open letter to the world titled "Thoughts on Music" in which he discusses the current state of digital music and DRM. He writes about people claiming they have this hold on the entire industry because of Apple's own DRM called FairPlay. Steve defines three possible ways how to deal with this: Keep going as is, the system works and just the same, others are doing it as well; Open FairPlay, which would force them to reveal how FairPlay is implemented in eventually leak secrets allowing hackers the ability to crack the DRM; and lastly is to remove any DRM from all files in which any player could play the file without restriction.
- Many have already commented on this piece praising Jobs for finally admitting that DRM is a failure and the industry would be wise to accept that. He notes that Europe in particular is accusing Apple of illegal practices because iTunes files will only play on iPod in which Jobs says go talk to the RIAA, it's not my problem. Read the full article, it is an amazing read.
- Also big news is Apple Inc. & The Beatles' Apple Corps have come to an agreement. This new agreement replaces the old agreement from 1991. Apple Inc. now owns all trademarks related to "Apple" and will license back certain trademarks back to Apple Corps. Apple Inc will continue to use the iTunes name and logo. In a nutshell, Apple Inc has become so known and recognized as a brand, and music company that Apple Corps has no recourse but to accept the fact that they cannot enforce they name any longer. It was probably for the best they come to an agreement.
- June 11-15 is the Apple WWDC Conference in San Francisco, CA. Be prepared for a Leopard release or at least announcement of a release.
The New Apple-Sauce

Well, it's not really new. I've just updated the look
a little bit and changed blogging platforms. I've
decided to use Rapid Weaver by Realmacsoftware. An iWeb like
web page development tool but with far superior
code handling, extensibility, publishing and
theme creation. I like using a desktop app over
going to Blogger or even firing up crusty ole
Ecto (though it is a great blogging tool, just a
little long in the tooth if you ask me). So here
I am - new tool, new theme. I'll be back very
soon.
